So I am back from the conference after presenting my research paper on the concept of "Nayaka". Smt. Indira Manikam who heads the Malaysia Bharatanatyam Association left no stone unturned to make it one of most happening events of the year in Malaysia.
The topics at the conferece were -- Rasa and Aesthetics -- Anjana Anand ( Anjana understood that the young were very new to the rasa theory and her analogies helped the students understand the rasa theory on macro as well as micro level) , Construct of Abhinaya (a mature lecture demonstration by renowned dancer Shankar Kandaswamy ). Shankar gave interpretative layers in Shri Ramanchandra Krupalu of Tulasi. This talented dancer uses his all encompassing knowledge to bring a very good and secular perspective to choreography.
Dr.Siri from Singapore spoke of Physics in and of dance. Her constant links of the anatomy of the body and space and the science which helps it achieve , was a very thought provoking one. I am sure Dr. Siri will take this research forward for the future generation to benefit.
Dr. Indira Manikkam spoke of the ethos of Malaysia and where Bharatanatyam fits in. Nandini from Mumbai performed a piece to english prose written by her and threw it openfor the audience to intpret it. Where Aravinth Kumarswamy from Singapore touched upon the devadasi legacy by sharing the work in process of his succesful prod Aalayam , Rajesh Sundaram spoke of the future of Bharatanatyam
